Any serious company out there will not use Windows Server Backup to backup an Exchange Server or even an Exchange Server DAG.

Of course we also need to mention that not every company can afford fancy backup software.

Netherless Windows Server Backup can backup an Exchange Server or an Exchange DAG (2x MBX servers), but it has its limitations:

1. You cannot backup the passive database, so you need to make sure when the database are backed up it is doing it on the active database

Steps to configure the backup:

Open Registry and navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\ExchangeServer\v14\Replay\Parameters

Add a new DWORD Value: EnableVSSWriter — Set the Value to 0

Next Open your Windows Server Backup and Select the Drives where your Databases are, you need to do a custom backup here, once the drives selected, click on Advance Settings and select VSS Full backup.

Choose where to store and backup.

Good Luck
