15 years has passed since I got my Microsoft Certified Trainer certification and a lot has changed since then. Microsoft has made a lot of changes to the program.

There are some important changes that you should be aware if you are a Trainer and have not visited MCT Central lately.

Certification Renewal – MCT and MCP 

Microsoft announced a new approach – free certification renewals – to reduce stress, complexity, and cost of keeping your certifications active.

Certification is valid for two years however you need to renew it before it expires. You can start renewal six months before the expiry date. Your learning dashboard will show when renewal is required and you can complete the renewal process on Microsoft Learn. Renewal is for the certification and not the individual exams. Read more here. Renewal Fees Waived

Due to the ongoing pandemic, Microsoft has waived the renewal fees for MCT until 30th June 2021. Renewal still needs to go through the official channel and you need to maintain the requirements. Please stay tuned to MCT Central for further updates.

Feedback and Metrics that Matter

As a reminder, you need to ensure that you use Metrics that Matter for your classes and students must provide feedback through that. You may use another survey tool, however you will need to provide evidence to Microsoft.

• • Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA)
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE)
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer (MCSD)
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Master (MCSM)
  • Microsoft Certified Master (MCM)
  • Microsoft Certified Architect (MCA)
  • Microsoft Certified Professional Developer (MCPD)
  • Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP)

  • Microsoft Office certifications

    • Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Master: 2007, 2010, and 2013
    • MOS Expert: Excel 2007, 2010, and 2013
    • MOS Expert: Word 2007, 2010, and 2013
• Meet the minimum instruction requirement of teaching at least one (1) classes, as validated by Metrics that Matter (MTM).
• Meet the instruction quality requirement of an average quality score of at least seven, as validated by MTM.
• Pay the renewal fee of $ 300.

You will receive an email 30 days prior to your MCT expiry date and can renew from as from that date.

Quick Update 30/01/15: The Renewal mails are going out and the MCT Program Manager has announced that for this year the teaching requirement will be 1 class.

• Meet the minimum instruction requirement of teaching at least one classes, as validated by Metrics that Matter (MTM).
• Meet the instruction quality requirement of an average quality score of at least seven, as validated by MTM.

What does it cost to be a Microsoft Certified Trainer

For Mauritius:

New MCT: $ 375

Renewing MCT: $ 300

Also you do not need to be employed by a CPLS to become an MCT however you are allowed to teach only at a CPLS.
